A New Lodge is Formed
International Masonic Brotherhood Comes to La Mesa
Serving the Community During Difficult Times
We, the brothers of La Mesa Lodge #407 will mark a major milestone
in the life of our Lodge in late 2009. In 1908, an enterprising
group of citizens here in La Mesa California got together to form a
Lodge of Master Masons to better serve the Masons of San Diego county
and the area of La Mesa in particular. The Grand Lodge of California
issued a dispensation authorizing La Mesa Masonic Lodge on
December 14, 1909. Our charter was issued on October 13, 1910, and
our first meeting was on November 10, 1910.
That Lodge has prospered over the years, and we are now preparing to
celebrate the 100th anniversary of our founding.
We believe that any community oriented organization that endures for a
century is worthy of celebration, and that the resultant good will and
positive impressions will benefit the community at large, and help us
celebrate our communal values of brotherly love, relief and truth in a
most rewarding manner.
Planning for our Centennial has begun in earnest. We have established
a Centennial Committee, and mapped out a program of activities centered
on three different but related themes:
• First, we should Celebrate, because we have something major to
celebrate, namely 100 years!
• Second, we should Observe the Centennial, and invite our
community to participate in those observances
• And finally, we should commemorate the occasion so that brothers
who come after us will have something to look back on.
We are excited about this unique opportunity to celebrate our Masonic
heritage in a public way!
One of our first activities is to create a Centennial commemorative coin for the
Lodge. Pictured below, each coin is slightly larger than a silver dollar and
will feature a the front of our Lodge building on the
front side of the coin. It will be offered in either silver
or bronze. The silver coin will be one troy ounce of .999 fine silver,
proof struck, encapsulated and packaged in a leatherette presentation
case. An order form is available at the Lodge office, and the brothers
are encouraged to begin placing orders. The coins are available now.

One of our ongoing efforts as we lead up to the Centennial year is to record
our archival documents in a digital format, both for safekeeping and to
make it easier to do research in the documents. Any Brother who would
like to help in this project is encouraged to contact Brother Bob Speegle.
Brother Walt Stucy has begun an effort to record the information on our
Visitor Cards in a database. This information is part of our history,
and recording it into an archive will make sure we can pass on this heritage
to tomorrows Masons. If you want to help, contact Brother Stucy.
It is our sincere wish that the Centennial Celebration of
La Mesa Lodge #407 be a memorable one. If you have anything that you
feel would help in this endeavor, please contact Brother Speegle or the
Lodge directly.
Fraternally,
The Brothers Of La Mesa Lodge #407
